Project and Construction Management
TDx Power offers project management and construction management services for new infrastructure, for the rehabilitation of infrastructure within existing networks, and for capacity enhancement and network strengthening projects. Over the years TDx Power has been responsible for the project and construction management of thousands of MVA of installed capacity at voltage levels up to and including 400 kV.
The management of a typical transmission or distribution level project starts with the planning and budgeting phase and it often includes environmental permitting, the early planning and management of which is becoming increasingly important to meet project deadlines. TDx Power is familiar with local environmental legislation and processes, having managed multimillion rand environmental impact assessment projects, and we are therefore well suited to initiate, plan and manage a project from inception right through to commissioning and energising. TDx Power’s protection and other secondary plant skills enable us to provide professional management and supervision of the commissioning process itself, thereby greatly contributing to achieving mission critical energising dates, whilst also maintaining accountability and rounding off the construction stage project and construction management responsibilities.
Project management and construction management services typically include the following:
- project scoping;
- project budgeting;
- conceptual design;
- power line routing;
- environmental and land and rights permit planning;
- detailed design and specifications;
- budget review and refinement;
- procurement of long-lead materials;
- compilation of procurement and tender documents;
- management of the tender process;

- review, evaluation and submission of project documentation; and
- project review and closure.
TDx Power is very familiar with Eskom’s business processes in the project management environment, having successfully managed key customer projects in excess of 500 MVA of new transformer capacity and with a cumulative value of several hundred million rand.
One of our core competencies is our ability to combine complete primary and secondary plant engineering skills with professional project, construction and commissioning management skills, rounded off with the ability to manage key customers and other executive stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
TDx Power’s extensive experience with transmission and infrastructure projects enables us to anticipate problems before they arise, therefore reducing overall project duration cost and to increase customer satisfaction. We frequently apply special procurement and construction techniques designed to save time and costs. These techniques have been applied successfully on recent projects and they include helicopter power line and live-line construction techniques. |
